Community Quilts is co-ordinated by a volunteer convenor who accepts and distributes completed quilts which are donated to organisations on behalf of WAQA members.
A current project of Community Quilts is the quilt drive Quilts For Wooroloo Fire – Recovery Time where handmade quilts are being collected for those who have lost their homes during the Wooroloo Fire.
Community Quilts greatly appreciates and warmly welcomes donations of quilts, tops, fabric and other items from the wider community to support us in our endeavours. Some of our members generously donate their time in quilting, binding and beautifully finishing off tops donated by other members, others donate quilts they make themselves.
‘Block of the Month’ demonstrations at Sewing Days/Sewing Nights engage the wider WAQA membership in the fun and enjoyment of learning, sharing and through the bi-monthly community quilting Busy Bees, the making of quilts for the community. Current and past BOM patterns are available here.
‘Busy Bees’ are held at Alexander Park Craft House in Menora and run from approximately 10am-3pm. Our Community Quilters are a wonderful bunch and will make you feel most welcome. You will enjoy great company and a wonderful feeling of achievement as you help put items together, that are then donated to those most in need in our community. The recipients are often overwhelmed to receive the gift of a quilt. Quilters have the extraordinary ability to touch others hearts!

Quilt sizes and Beneficiaries specifications
FEELY HEARTS AND TEDDIES
These are given to patients’ family members – children love to have these to hold and pop into a pocket; keep them small for little hands. Make them from any fabric with a good feel to it eg polar fleece, chenille, soft terry cloth, panne velvet, satin, silk. Fill them lightly with toy filling as they need to be pliable in the hand. Please do not add any embellishments.
